What is Botox?

Getting Botox Cosmetic is a simple, safe procedure that can rejuvenate your skin and improve your appearance. It can reduce superficial facial wrinkles, deep wrinkles, and it is the most used minimally invasive facial enhancement procedure in Cincinnati.  Using Botox Cosmetic Injections for wrinkles and fine lines has become very popular. The process involves the injection of Botulinum toxin type A, a neuromodulator that temporarily inhibits muscle contraction.

If you are considering getting Botox in Cincinnati, there are several things to know before you go in for the treatment. You’ll need to tell your injector if you take any medications, are pregnant, or have any allergies. At Livio, we will go over your medical history thoroughly.

Botox Cincinnati FAQ

How long does Botox last?

Depending on your treatment area, the duration of Botox may vary. Botox works by blocking nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. In the first few days, the effects of Botox aren’t visible. However, by the 10th-14th day, you should start to notice a reduction in your fine lines and wrinkles. The effects of Botox last 12-16 weeks, dependent on your muscle strength, and metabolism.

Botox cosmetic can also reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles.  Usually deeper wrinkles require skin treatments in conjunction with your Botox treatments, as the lines are etched into the skin.  But with patience and consistent treatments, these deep lines will continue to improve.

What Is Botox Made Of?

Botox is a prescription medicine that uses botulinum toxin to block the messages from the nerve to the muscles, preventing them from contracting. When they can’t contract, they can’t form those repeated facial expressions that cause wrinkles.
Botulinum toxin is produced by the naturally-occurring bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

Botox can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles along with some medical conditions like migraines or hyperhidrosis.

How Long Does It Take For Botox to Work?

Botox can begin to work in as few as two days, depending on the dose size and treatment area. However, optimum results generally appear in about one to two weeks, with full treatment results at 14 days. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin work by preventing movement from the facial muscles that cause wrinkle-causing facial expressions. While the time it takes for Botox to work may vary slightly from person to person, the results are well worth the wait.

How many units are used on the forehead?

Having a Botox injection in your forehead is an effective way to reduce vertical creases between your eyes and horizontal forehead lines. However, the amount of Botox required to achieve your desired results will vary from patient to patient.

Forehead wrinkles and frown lines can usually be treated with 30 units, while deeper lines may require up to 40 units.

It is important to consult with a certified practitioner or injector before having a Botox injection in your forehead. Schedule a consultation with Livio to learn more.

How Long After Botox Can You Get a Facial?

For many patients, Botox is just one part of a total facial rejuvenation treatment plan. The other steps might include a laser treatment or fillers, but a particularly good treatment to pair with Botox is a facial. That said, if you get a facial too soon, you may disrupt your Botox: the neurotoxin can spread or any bruising may worsen when the face gets touched or massaged.

At the bare minimum, you should wait one full day, 24 hours, after your Botox treatment before putting any kind of new pressure on your face. Your experts at Livio Med Spa recommend leaving your face alone for two or three days after your Botox to really let it heal and begin to work.

Can You Exercise After a Botox Treatment?

You can work out after Botox injections, but how long do you need to wait before you can safely and comfortably hit the gym?

The standard advice is to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days after Botox to prevent the exertion of muscles that could lead to Botox spreading or bruising as it heals.

During exercise, the heart rate increases, boosting blood flow in the body which could lead to bruising or discomfort at the site of your Botox injections. In addition, the increased blood flow can carry the Botox to other parts of your body, where it can cause unwanted side effects.

Can Botox Cause Headaches?

Approximately one percent of Botox patients experience headaches after receiving Botox injections. These headaches usually occur in the first few hours after Botox injections and generally get better within a few days. You can use over the counter analgesics such as Tylenol to treat discomfort.

How Does Botox Help Migraines?

Getting Botox for migraines can be a huge help to patients. This non-invasive treatment will relax the muscles and block the pain fibers around the head and neck, preventing pain signals from reaching the brain. The results may take a few weeks or months to take effect, but most patients experience relief from migraines within two weeks of receiving the first injection.

Botox is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat chronic migraines. The treatment is only available to patients with migraines lasting 14 days or more a month. If you have a chronic migraine, you should consult our experts at Livio Med Spa to find out if Botox is right for you.

Can You Drink After a Botox Treatment?

You should wait at least one to two days post-Botox treatment before drinking alcohol. It is important to note that even though Botox is a popular cosmetic treatment, it is still a prescription drug.

Alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and swelling before and after a Botox treatment. If you are getting Botox to treat wrinkles, it is important to drink water after the treatment to keep your skin hydrated.

Alcohol is a vasodilator, which means it expands blood vessels, which can lead to more bruising. Alcohol can also slow down the healing process.

How Long Should You Wait to Lay Down After Botox?

To maximize the effectiveness of your Botox treatment, you should avoid lying down or bending over for about four to six hours after your treatment. It’s important to leave the face alone to let the Botox set, and to avoid the possibility of it migrating to other parts of the face. When you get a Botox treatment at Livio Med Spa, our providers will have instructions on how to treat the area afterward.

What Not to Do After Botox?

While you are recovering from your Botox procedure, it’s important to avoid certain activities. This will prevent unwanted stress and pressure from being placed on the treatment area.

Avoiding activities that cause intense physical movement will also help keep Botox in place. For example, yoga headstands and other vigorous exercises should be avoided for a few days after the procedure.

Avoid alcohol and Ibuprofen for 48 hours before the procedure, too. Both have been shown to increase the risk of bruising. Avoiding hot showers and saunas is also important. Hot tubs and tanning beds can increase the risk of infection around the injected area.

It’s also important to avoid strenuous physical activities such as aerobic exercise. These activities can exacerbate the side effects of Botox and cause blood vessels to dilate. This can make it more difficult for Botox to settle into the nerves and muscles correctly.

Can You Get Botox While Breastfeeding?

Data suggests that it is very unlikely that any of the active ingredients present in Botox will contaminate a nursing mother’s breast milk. Some medical professionals may advise you to wait until after you are done breastfeeding before getting Botox. Others may suggest that you can get Botox and wait four or more hours after your treatment to resume nursing. If you’re on the fence, schedule a consultation with our providers at Livio and we can talk you through the treatment and any complications associated with it.

Can You Get Botox While Pregnant?

Botox is not proven to be harmful to the fetus, but it hasn’t been proven safe for the fetus either. For that reason, most healthcare professionals advise women to wait for treatment until after you are pregnant.

What is Baby Botox?

Compared to traditional Botox, “Baby Botox” is a new way of administering Botox by using a smaller dose to target finer areas. . It is perfect for those who want to prevent wrinkles before they happen or have fewer fine lines and want a more natural-looking result.
During a consultation at Livio Med Spa, our trained providers will help decide how much Botox is needed to treat your particular concerns. An area with deeper wrinkles may require a higher number of units.

Since the price of Botox is proportional to the number of units used to treat you, Baby Botox is a less expensive alternative to traditional Botox. It is also perfect for first-time Botox users.

Although the results of Baby Botox may be less dramatic than traditional Botox, they can last up to 3 months, though some patients can need a follow-up treatment after 6 weeks. In addition, Baby Botox can have a shorter life span in different regions of the face.
